Other Ways to Show Your Support
- Regularly include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and their families at social gatherings such as weddings, parties, barbecues, and dinners. Some of your friends might think that they don’t know anyone affected by discrimination; you can give them the chance to meet LGBT people and their families and put a face on the issues.
- Spread the word by letting your non-LGBT friends and acquaintances know that you’re involved and ask them to become involved too. Give them specific ideas and provide them with materials and information that will make it easy for them to join in.
- Show your support on the job by putting up flyers or cards near your desk or workstation to express your support for LGBT equality—these can generate terrific conversations that give you a chance to explain to others why this is important to you.
- Wear symbols such as lapel pins and rubber bracelets to show your support and serve as conversation starters.
